Housework Apron

I love the Ruffled Apron that I designed. It’s cute.It’s a good fabric choice and it holds a lot of stuff. But time passes and I need to change it a bit. Good design for me is a journey. Improvements come, design features pass, fabrics change.

I sat looking at this photo and wondered why I never made it in denim. And truth be told, some customers love girly features like ruffles and others not so much. Why had I not tired it without the ruffle? Probably because there are not enough hours in the day to do everything I see to do.

But this week I added it to the official workroom to do list. I Asked myself, how can I make this better? I wanted it wider. I wanted it without ruffles. I definitely wanted denim. I wanted a wider waistband and ties. Those choices are much more comfortable when working. A wider waistband will hold it in place better and much more comfortably.

I made the first sample. The space was too big between the waistband and gathered pocket. Back to the beginning. I decided to add 2″ more to the height of the pocket.

Then I had to think. Do I want 2 pockets or three? People may carry lots of things and dividing them into categories is important. No one likes things all messed about . I landed on my choice of three pockets.

Selling it depended completely on the photograph. I wanted to show what it can do. I looked for clean appropriate things to stuff into the pockets. Sadly I was out of paper towels. Wouldn’t a roll of paper towel be perfect to stuff into a pocket?

I felt happy with the result. And I do love that dishtowel. I had a short run of making those. Those were fun, too.
