Linen Pouch Apron Sale

We see Aprons as the layer of clothing that relates to the work you are doing. The specific type of work determines the style of apron that you choose. Sometimes you just need something small just to carry things with you during chores or shopping. You may only need a simple pouch to hold your wallet and cell, or snacks and water on a walk, clothespins to hang laundry or a thousand other activities. You just need that extra set of hands. Other times, you need serious coverage and big pockets and the ease of wearability. And there are fashion needs, sometimes you’re out in the muddy spring garden and other times, you need the elegance of a long Linen Apron. We are aware that design features matter a lot. Aprons need to be easy to wear, easy to put on and relate to the work. We try to fulfill the wide range of needs based on customer feedback.

Our Pouch Apron became our simplest design option. It really is just a simple pouch with soft twill ties that simply tie at your back. No fuss, just quickly tie a bow and you are good to go. You can wear it out of the way on your hip, or in front or back, wear it at your waist, or lower on your hip. We gave it a feature to make it really easy to use. We made the front wider then the back so a gap is always present for your hand to slip in quickly without having to find the opening. The opening is always there ready to receive contents.

We currently make our Pouch Apron in Denims and Linens. We find the cottons and homespun too light for the design. Or maybe not, now I wonder, did we even try it? I will look at that later.

Which brings us to today’s topic. Today the topic is the Linen Pouch Aprons. As we make so aprons out of Linen, we end up with a respectable pile of scrap. It’s hard to just throw it all away. Selling them as scrap bundles is an option but also takes time. You need time for lots of measurements, weighing, photographing and listing. Someone else suggested making linen napkins. I just don’t want to. The world has so very many makers of linen napkins, I can’t imagine anyone needs us to join in. I don’t want to waste time making more of something that the world has in abundance. I also don’t like devoting precious time to what was essentially “managing the scrap pile”. So we came up a brilliant solution, A Pouch Sale.

Surprisingly, the Linen scraps we have were just large enough to accommodate the Pouch Apron. So we came up with a plan. We decided that we would turn the scrap pile into a pile of Pouch Aprons and offer them at a deeply reduced price to get it all sold off in one go. We thought that it would help customers and helps us save the planet. Alternately, we could just add additional colors to our Pouch listing and wait for sales to come in over time but space is at a premium here, we are trying to move forward with new spring apron designs and quite frankly, I would love the scrap pile to be gone now.

The Pouch Apron really is an awesome design that people should have and gets very little attention. It’s is a great replacement for a purse when you need to be hands free. The linen really is prewashed and shrunk so the Linen Pouch Apron really can be tossed into the washer and dryer and unlike your purse, the apron will smell fresh and clean all the time. And for the fashionably attentive, the different linen colors will match different outfits. You can look great!

So, a week ago Wednesday, the Pouch Apron Sale went live on our website. We had planned that once they were gone, they’d be gone until we accumulated another linen scrap pile. Maybe this will happen twice a year? We figured to see how this plan would work and if customers responded. Sales figures and feedback tell us everything, after all.

Well, I’m happy to say that it went really well. We nearly sold out of everything we had….. so, so many Pouch aprons sold. It’s great to have the pile heading out of the studio, having been changed into something productive instead of piling up as an unwanted space-taker-upper. I don’t know how often we will do the Pouch Sale but I am making it the official path for our linen scraps. When the scrap pile starts to over take its space, we will do it again. That was a fun solution. We will definitely do it again, maybe once a year?

Now we just have to figure out what to do with the homespun scraps. Oven mitts and potholders?
