Hippy Dress
Our Hippy Apron is a favorite for us and it’s time has come to blossom, by morphing into another version of itself, what we will title the Hippy Dress. Our customers have requested a dress version for a long time and finally we could oblige.
First, morphing a Hippy Apron design into a Hippy Dress design begins at the cutting table. Design decisions needed to be made. We needed to consider what features to keep, what features could go, and we needed to keep ourselves reigned in considering cost.
Second, we identified the focus of our work, the back. We knew we needed the front and sides to look the same as the original apron. It was the back that was the area of decision. The adjustable straps had to stay as they are critical to the height and placement of the chest of the apron. People vary so much in size and shape. We were left with the decision of how to get into the dress? Did we want zippers? Darts? Pleats?
Moreover, the new Hippy Dress dress felt like it should be a pullover style for ease, comfort and flexible fit. We had no intention of eliminating anyone due to fit. Trying to avoid new notions would be helpful in this new weird world of inconsistent supplies. We created the new back to have an elastic waist, and ties to adjust fit. The new design would then just slip over your head with ease and allow you to adjust the fit to suit you.
Handkerchief hem was a must to keep and a key feature to the whole look. So, we redesigned the Hippy Apron front and sides so that we reduced the yardage a bit from the original for cost considerations but kept the shape of the original design.
Lastly, our large pockets would remain. The look of the pockets are so important to the personality of the design. They add dimension but also practicality. After all, pockets are a major component in wearing an apron. Even though it would now be a Hippy Dress, our signature pockets would remain.
So for now, we offer it in Denim and look forward to taking it into our Linen collection. We hope you like it! Let us know your feedback. We love all the email!
